EP 27 | Rehearse your Destiny

In this episode of Unfractured, author Skot Welch and his friend Eric Johnson continue discussing chapter nine, titled “Abandon Black Inferiority.” They reiterate the dangers of accepting negative narratives and redirect the conversation towards love, freedom, and the inheritance found in faith.

Eric reflects on his experience growing up within Christian culture and notes the disconnect between the positive message of inheritance and the prevalent victim mentality in the Church. He explains that some individuals in the community adopt the mindset of a martyr, believing it validates their beliefs.

Skot introduces the concept of biblical humility, which advocates for the identity God has assigned to his people rather than one of self-deprecation. He encourages us to repeat what God says about ourselves, focusing on messages of love and royalty. Skot affirms that the world should not dictate our identity and references 2 Corinthians 5:7 of the Bible: “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

They discuss the historical narratives surrounding African Americans, acknowledging their struggles and injustices. However, Skot reinforces rejecting narratives of weakness, limitations, and submission. Instead, to use these experiences as a launching pad for resilience and victory.

This episode will challenge us to reject negative perceptions. To acknowledge the impact of our history while maintaining power over it. Embracing our faith-based identities and taking control of the narratives that shape our destinies.
